Did Obama Flip Flop on Marijuana??
Barack, Barack, Barack. You of all people should know that you can’t say anything in the public eye and then say the exact opposite. Why, because of the Internet. With the Internet, videos from say 2004 show up on youtube. So what happened in 2004. Obama stated his anger and that we need to think about legalizing. What happens in 2009? He publicly asks Americans to go to his website and select issues to be discussed during town hall meetings. Not only do we, but overwhelmingly, the #1 topic for discussion is legalizing marijuana. Silly people again misunderstood Obama. They thought he would be a champion for all the causes he stands for. The man who admitted to enjoying drugs because ‘that’s the point’, told Americans at that town hall meeting that he doesn’t think legalizing marijuana is a good idea. This is what happens when you don’t pay attention to who you’re voting for. The person who said we need to decriminalize marijuana use (who has those perfect black lips that people get from smoking marijuana), bent his knees and flipped on the issue. For those who don’t understand this issue, decriminalizing marijuana use (which has been done in Mexico), doesn’t mean making it a legal drug like alcohol or cigarettes.
We’re talking about making it so young people who get caught smoking marijuana aren’t jailed, given a criminal record and disqualified for student aid for college. It works, as it does in Mexico, by looking the other way if a person is caught with a certain amount of marijuana for personal use, but still criminalizes it if the person is caught with an amount suitable for…say selling or distribution. The average person who may want to self medicate during cancer treatment or depression is then protected from the law. The only people who may be in trouble are celebrities (Snoop Dogg comes to mind), who may keep enough marijuana around to be a drug dealer but only because they smoke that much.
Another kind of legalization would mean making it a controlled substance like alcohol, and then taxing it and controlling its distribution like it does with cigarettes and alcohol. This would probably create jobs manufacturing the drug for sale (think about big tobacco), and create tax income through sales. Mrs. President smacked down both ideas although he has of course supported decriminalization in the past. Just look at the video. I’m not making this up.

Well being a president doesn’t mean you can legalize everything, there is alot of things that need to be passed through other people then it gets to the president and he can sign on it or not. but he can have influence into pushing better laws but still congress can easily stop that. plus all his supporters can easily rally against him and it will just give him a bad reputation. so it’s really the government behind this. they did criminalize marijuana because of racism in the past. but times are different but marijuana is still demonized by todays society, but little by little it’s being accepted as a alternative herbal remedy to cancer and other major health problems. but smoking any substance is never any good for your lungs and health. but there is other ways of using cannabis. you can make edibles and also “green dragon” (alcoholic laced with THC), and the pharmaceutical extraction that is made into a pill or capsule. but yes it would create more jobs and government would be able to get tax. because california is already in the process of regulating marijuana for non medicinal purposes for ages 21+. Medical Marijuana dispensries provide a controlled environment for medical marijuana and safe. but once it’s regulated in california. you still have to go through a short process with a dispensry to get marijuana. so it would be “monitored” and taxed. it’s already taxed by the state in california. but once it’s regulated for non medicinal purposes any 21+ adult can purchase it. but of course you have to sign up for membership with a dispensry as a “patient” but I’m sure the dispensries keep track of the purchases so your purchase isn’t private like street purchases. but it’s a good thing to keep it out of the hands of children. but children are still able to access marijuana and other drugs. but the regulation of it will be a good process because the marijuana from the dispensries is of much higher quality then the marijuana in the street. so the mexican drug cartels would lose money and have to lower the price on there existing drug operation. but even then people wouldn’t bother buying pesticide laced garbage marijuana. if they are 21+ they can easily just get higher quality clean marijuana from a dispensry, thus eliminating the whole support of drug cartels. and there is a wide range of medical marijuana medicine in the dispensries that come in various forms such as edibles. so legalization would be a good thing. however that does mean more people would be smoking the substance or consuming it. it will have an effect on society a more creative and active one. because not all marijuana makes the user sedated there is various strains such as SATIVA. which is a much more cerebral high and energetic. the indica is a more sedated body high and makes the user tired. and then there is the hybrids which is a little bit of both strains excluding tiredness and energy. but it all ranges and varies. sativa is much more of a day time medication. and indica is used for severe body pain and best used at night. so it all depends on the users choices and method of consumption. edibles have a long lasting effect (4 to 10 hours). smoking has a much shorter lasting effect (1 to 4 hours).
The bigger point is the point of the article though. This is just one of numerous issues this president has championed and claimed to support only to change his path when he is actually in position to do what he promised.
From whats hes said before I think he probably secretly supports legalization. But he wants to avoid controversy. Its what he does with gay marriage too. He says hes against it but then was against Prop 8 even though if Prop 8 didnt pass it would mean California would have gay marriage so the positions are conflicting. Its disingenious but when your in politics you need to maneuver sometimes to get things done. Saying “legalize marijuana” wouldve lead to right-wing pundits talking about it and it would obscure the health care bill which already has enough problems passing.
But the popular and political will to legalize marijuana is building. When enough people in Congress openly support it and enough Americans(it just passed 50%!) support it Obama will move to legalize it. The impetus for this will probably be when California passes its legalization referendum(and it will). He’ll probably even make it look like its not a flip-flop by first going to the UN to amend the Single Convention(a treaty to ban marijuana) and just say he was against it because he didn’t want to go against a treaty the US signed(never mind the fact that the UN Narcotics board gets almost all its support from the US and the treaty would be repealed overnight if the US stopped supporting it).
The special interest owns Obama and most politicians for that matter. Ron Paul 2012! Check it out.
