i'm of Mexican descent and i am against current immigration control. or lack of control i should say. i am for strengthening our borders and stop illegal immigration.

i am for legalized entrance to this country. It is a lot of work and requires a lot of persistence but is possible.

i am for working hard to get what you need and a little of what you want
i don't approve of coming to this country to see what it will give you.

Mr Chavez NEVER asked for charity. Cesar Chavez was a hard working man and we are forgetting how to work because we are too busy organizing protests to get free stuff and that is what people resent...

We have equality. The discrimination thing is here and there but not as a norm. On the contrary. I have found more warmth and acceptance than in my own country!

i have found more racism and degradation from the so called liberals and progressives who want to give me or get this or that for me if i only join their unions. the people on top do not really embrace me as a human being. im just a number who will help them get what they want: money and political power. and if a don't join them i am treated like a disease... who is the racist???

why do people want to come to the USA to do what they can't do in their country? including violate the law? if you want to be here...

learn the language.
learn the culture
embrace the good and reject the bad
do not forget your heritage and be very very proud of it and display it
with knowledge of your country history and culture. teach your children your history and your culture and your language.
do not be an embarrassment to your country of origin. do not do here what you are not allowed to do there, like break the law...

and on and on and on...

I was born in the USA but i am not a Mexican American i am an American of Mexican descent and extremely proud of my heritage. Viva Mexico!

The bigger point is the point of the article though. This is just one of numerous issues this president has championed and claimed to support only to change his path when he is actually in position to do what he promised.

From whats hes said before I think he probably secretly supports legalization. But he wants to avoid controversy. Its what he does with gay marriage too. He says hes against it but then was against Prop 8 even though if Prop 8 didnt pass it would mean California would have gay marriage so the positions are conflicting. Its disingenious but when your in politics you need to maneuver sometimes to get things done. Saying "legalize marijuana" wouldve lead to right-wing pundits talking about it and it would obscure the health care bill which already has enough problems passing.

But the popular and political will to legalize marijuana is building. When enough people in Congress openly support it and enough Americans(it just passed 50%!) support it Obama will move to legalize it. The impetus for this will probably be when California passes its legalization referendum(and it will). He'll probably even make it look like its not a flip-flop by first going to the UN to amend the Single Convention(a treaty to ban marijuana) and just say he was against it because he didn't want to go against a treaty the US signed(never mind the fact that the UN Narcotics board gets almost all its support from the US and the treaty would be repealed overnight if the US stopped supporting it).

Well being a president doesn't mean you can legalize everything, there is alot of things that need to be passed through other people then it gets to the president and he can sign on it or not. but he can have influence into pushing better laws but still congress can easily stop that. plus all his supporters can easily rally against him and it will just give him a bad reputation. so it's really the government behind this. they did criminalize marijuana because of racism in the past. but times are different but marijuana is still demonized by todays society, but little by little it's being accepted as a alternative herbal remedy to cancer and other major health problems. but smoking any substance is never any good for your lungs and health. but there is other ways of using cannabis. you can make edibles and also "green dragon" (alcoholic laced with THC), and the pharmaceutical extraction that is made into a pill or capsule. but yes it would create more jobs and government would be able to get tax. because california is already in the process of regulating marijuana for non medicinal purposes for ages 21+. Medical Marijuana dispensries provide a controlled environment for medical marijuana and safe. but once it's regulated in california. you still have to go through a short process with a dispensry to get marijuana. so it would be "monitored" and taxed. it's already taxed by the state in california. but once it's regulated for non medicinal purposes any 21+ adult can purchase it. but of course you have to sign up for membership with a dispensry as a "patient" but I'm sure the dispensries keep track of the purchases so your purchase isn't private like street purchases. but it's a good thing to keep it out of the hands of children. but children are still able to access marijuana and other drugs. but the regulation of it will be a good process because the marijuana from the dispensries is of much higher quality then the marijuana in the street. so the mexican drug cartels would lose money and have to lower the price on there existing drug operation. but even then people wouldn't bother buying pesticide laced garbage marijuana. if they are 21+ they can easily just get higher quality clean marijuana from a dispensry, thus eliminating the whole support of drug cartels. and there is a wide range of medical marijuana medicine in the dispensries that come in various forms such as edibles. so legalization would be a good thing. however that does mean more people would be smoking the substance or consuming it. it will have an effect on society a more creative and active one. because not all marijuana makes the user sedated there is various strains such as SATIVA. which is a much more cerebral high and energetic. the indica is a more sedated body high and makes the user tired. and then there is the hybrids which is a little bit of both strains excluding tiredness and energy. but it all ranges and varies. sativa is much more of a day time medication. and indica is used for severe body pain and best used at night. so it all depends on the users choices and method of consumption. edibles have a long lasting effect (4 to 10 hours). smoking has a much shorter lasting effect (1 to 4 hours).

Comment on Virginia Race Polar Opposite of Race for President by Michael Rubin

Since 1977, every time one party has won the White House, the other party has won the election for Governor of Virginia. If history repeats itself, Bob McDonnell should be the next VA Governor.

The problem that I see though is that the Democrats decided to run a moderate vs. another strong conservative. In the Democratic Primary, the Democrats rejected former DNC chief Terry McAuliffe, who was seen as a "Hillary Clinton Democrat" and too liberal to win in Virginia.

What I have seen is a trend. Democrats nominate moderates to try to win in swing states, and Republicans continue to view moderates as not true conservatives.

If Bob McDonnell was a moderate Republican, he would coast to an easy win. But on a scale from one to ten, where one is Nancy Pelosi and ten is Pat Robertson, Bob McDonnell is a ten.

Your article is well-written, but it is not addressing the actual controversy. There are a number of conservatives who believe that the wife's place is in the home. Bob McDonnell's thesis was written in 1989. I remember 1989 and most women worked then. In fact, most women worked in 1979.

Had Bob McDonnell wrote that thesis in the early 1960s when the culture was dealing with a huge change in women entering the workforce, I could say that he was uncomfortable with change that he was seeing. But by 1989, that change had already happened and he wanted to move society decades into the past.

I think it's better to look at a candidate for who the candidate really is. Can we believe that Bob McDonnell's views have only changed on the controversial issues, and he is now just someone who only takes the strongest conservative views that people can take publicly, or should we consider that he may still hold some views that he does not wish to talk about.

Virginia will decide.

I agree. That's why I call us Americans. It may have been fine to be called African American when the slaves got here, but really. There is no Africa in our culture. We are just American. Most of us wouldn't last a day in Africa.

Debbie wrote:
I have an adopted son from Ethiopia. He is confused as to why blacks in this country claim to be African American. He was born in Africa then got his citizenship here at 18 years old. He is really African American. Should each group insist on a prefix according to generations long past that immigrated to this country? Should I insist on being called an Irish American because three generations ago, my family came to this country. My son insists that all blacks are not African American, but either African or American. Most have never been to Africa. There is enough division in this country and the insistence of some to be called "African American" is both divisive and not accurate. Each and every citizen of this country have roots and history from another. We all trace back to immigrants. I must agree with my son. If you were born in Africa, you are an African American. If not, you are an American.
